So with my work I'm now in hotels 2-3 nights a week and would love a gaming laptop to keep me entertained.

Trouble is I don't really want to spend that much and laptops which can handle modern games really aren't cheap!

The main game I would want to play i CS GO at a decent resolution with a constant 100+ fps.

So with mini (or micro) atx, smaller the better, how cheap can I build a hotel friendly transportable pc?

I guess Id use the TV's in the hotels for the monitor so just base unit spec suggestions please.

Thanks!

Pandemonium has the right idea, definitely go with an APU unless you want to spend a bit more and get an itx-PC with like a 960. On the other hand, playing CS:GO on Hotel TVs... yikes!

Don't think the case Pandemonium linked would be too good, maybe if you get a large Pico PSU, i had an A6 APU in that case with no GPU and it would crash a lot, I think it was PSU, or maybe heat, you can't fit a decent cooler in that case. Don't know the true size of a bitfenix prodigy, but they look like they can be carried easily with their handles on top. Full Size PSU in there also.

If you're comfortable using hotel TVs then consider the Shuttle XPC systems. You can put a full-sized GPU in them and you can buy a fitted case for them into which you can put a mini keyboard, mouse, and all the gubbins, though I can't spot it on their website. Or you can use a gym bag lined with foam.

It's designed for a powerful ITX build, powerful in this instance means some GPU horsepower, i.e. card greater than 10" - so considering what you can put into it, I think it's OK. Otherwise why not opt for a highend NUC/Brix?

My Brix is brilliant and plays 1080P games in turbo mode OK (Granted not Witcher 3) but its a good effort.

Personally I would go with a laptop. Yes they're more expensive, but you'll have a better monitor to look at, keyboard and mouse, and it'll be a lot easier/safer to transport.
Do you use a laptop for work? Perhap you could sort something out with your boss regarding an upgrade?

There is a Clevo 13.3 inch that is for sale on another PC seller, you could call them an expert in PC's if you wise.

£700 gets you an i7, 8gb of ram and a 960m. Sure, its more expensive than a desktop but its portable.

Other than that, maybe the Corsair case that has a handle (is still pretty big though) or something tiny like a Rajintek Metis:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Raijintek Metis*- Black Mini ITX Case £35.99
Total : £45.59 (includes shipping : £8.00 Ex.VAT).

This case is TINY. I did a build with a G3258, 250GB SSD and a 270X. Plays everything in high settings really well. can fit the entire thing under your arm.

thanks for all the advice so far guys - much appreciated. Around 500£ is about what id have been willing to pay so some of these builds seem great. Not sure how powerful the APU builds are though..

*stuff*
massive overkill for CS:GO on a hotel TV! :o

One quick question: Why 100+ FPS? The TV is going to be showing you 30...

The APU will give significantly more than 30FPS on max settings at 1080p - which the TV might not be! With 2400MHz memory as specced you should be over 60fps, though not at your 100fps target

The reason I picked what I did was because even though all the OP wants it for now is CSGO maybe in the future they might want more from it. It would be very easy to stick and i5 or better in there and a more powerful card without a full upgrade. Perhaps a 550W superflower would be more prudent in that case.

Also good point on the hotel TV being 30fps, the G3258 may well provide enough power onboard for CSGO alone. If not I have an 8800 that runs it fine so very little cost there.

Lots of options to choose from though.
