I just bought a Q6600 B3 stepping (well a couple of weeks ago) from the MM

After installing it, things were running a bit laggy, but to be fair my pc has been in need of a format for a while, so I formatted and reinstalled (windows x64)

since formatting, fifa manager 08 wont run, I get a windows has performed an illegal operation dialog box.

afte the message nothing else will install until i reboot the pc, but then every thing else i have tried (so far) works,

so far i have only installed Cod4 oblivion and CS 2

I re- reformated and tried again to see if it was kind of bad install, but exactly same again.

I know its a bit vague, but any body have any ideas at all?

hi, thankas for the responses.

the motherboard is a asus p5n-e sli which does support the cpu (acording to their web page)

Nope I didnt reset the cmos. can try that tonight see if it makes a difference.

Have run cpu-z and everest and they are both reporting the cpu to be correct.

also ran that free cpu benchmark that used to be 3dmark 2.2 on both the new cpu and my old E6400 (got it in another machine becasue a friend is having it)

the E6400 took 33.9 seconds at stock, the q6600 took 29.3 at stock and 21.6 OCed to 2.8 massive increase lol.

I am telling myself I will see an improvement when more software starts to utilise quad cores.

I am running windows X64 (dont see the point buying a new op system when I havea perfectly good, and licenced one already)
