Small Problem im having....

My pc has been working all nice up until yesterday, i switched out the gfx card with a better one, PC runs fine but every now and again it will reboot and my asus mobo yells about 'overclocking fail'
Now its run fine on the current settings for years so im wondering if the newer card is overloading the PSU (after a second opinion before i blow cash on a juicy one)

Full spec is.... (including everything power drawing)

Q6600 @3.6ghz (TRUE+noctua nc-12)
4gb geil ram (4x1gb sticks)
9800gx2 (was 8800gtx)
2x 150gb raptors in raid0
2x 250gb sata for storage
1x sata dvdr optical drive
sblive 7.1 soundcard
dlink gbit lan card

then accessories...
logitech g15 keyboard
razer lachesis
saitek X52pro flightstick

besides monitor theres nothing else in there, temps are all low (even in this crappy hot weather)

psu is a hiper 580w type-r rated for 20a rail1, 18a rail2

I'm no expert but with the 4 HD in there maybe the new GFX card is just pushing the PSU over the edge.

I'm sure someone with better experience in these matters will correct me.

Has to be the GFX not getting enough power I'd say. 580W may theoretically be enough but the PSU is not super high standard and therefore won't actually provide a full 580W.

if ya still got the 8800gtx put that back in an keep ya O/c an see if ya sys is stable !!!

reason being i had a sys simaliar to u`res till i bought a ati 4870x2 card also i had a hiper 580type r aswell ( i know )

anyways i was running x2 scsi 36gig hd on a scsi card x2 raptor 74 gb an 1 raptor 150 gb as well as 3 roms etc etc ...

after i did a online test for psu`s i found that 580 was very ,very border line in power when i stuck my ati x2 in so took the option to upgrade to a better psu ...

if u do upgrade think of what ya got an what u might like to have/want an try get a psu that u`ll think will last u ..

i was looking a "corsiar 750" or "be quiet 850" but opt`d for a corsair 1000w casue they didn`t have stock of the others when i was buying

an iam realy glad i did tbh ...

i had that thought also, tried it and it works good, just tried the gx2 in my friends comp and that works good there, so must be psu :/

See sig for spec, only i now have an SSD as well and my Hyper 580 runs it all with no issue; plus powers four fans, however the fault does sound power related, does the power lead supplying your GPU also feed any of the drives, if so, try them on another line ?

just been reading through the nvidia forums, although im not sure how accurate it is, states this....

"Your PSU must supply >40Amps from your 12V rails."

mine falls 2 amps short there without thinking about cpu etc :/
