Which are the samllest PSU that OC supply that are around 400watts. As i am after a smaller PSU than the standard size. Dont really want to spend more than £25-30

By smaller do you mean non atx or just the shortest ATX available?

If it's non atx then the best 'micro' atx PSU on OCUK is this enermax - HERE

Not quite the 400watts you wanted but a quality PSU none the less.

What case are you building into?

Well im looking at micro atx motherboads, so i will need an ATX PSU wont i?. Its not going into a case, im building a mini arcade cabinet, so im looking for the smallest (in size) PSU to got with one of the micro atx mobos that OC supply, so im looking a size below the norm

I would be using E7200 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 1x Hardrive, ATI 3400 series GFX card, and a few USB devices, would 285watts be enough for this on a micro atx mobo??

That answered my next question and as far as i'm concerned the 285 will be fine.

Also, i run an e7200 as well. It's in the mobo i mention in your other thread - on top of that the mobo has both an HDMI out so if that's all you're planning on using the GPU for you could possibly do away with it.

Indeed if you did do away with it you might find the power usage allows you to use a pico psu. These come in 120watt varieties and are about the size of a match box.

Thanks for replying, so you think if i took the gfx card out of the equation the system would run happly on a 120watt PSU?? Also any idea of the dimensions of the, Enermax EG285-SX-VB PSU?

It would be close but i think it would work.

The PSU calculator site states it should pull roughly 120 watts at 85% load - combine that with the fact that it's known to be over most of the time it should be fine.

As for the enermax. Their site states the dimensions of the 285watt matx psu to be:

D 101.5mm
W 125mm
H 63.3mm

Right got my PC Components the other day:

Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H mobo
Core 2 Duo E7200 2.53GHZ
250GB Seagate Barracuda
LG DVD/RW+

all powed by, Enermax EG285-SX-VB(G) 285W Micro ATX PSU using onboard graphics

Now i installed XP 64 fine, but when the PC rebooted to finished the setup, my PC keeps restarting and display the if i want to start in safe mode, command prompt etc screen. If i select start windows normal the xp logo appears with the progress bar for about a second and then i see a quick flash of a blue screen of death and then the PC restarts all over again. Now is this a dodge install or is the 285watt PSU not powerful enough??

nah not witha sata connection for the HD. I thought if it was struggling then it wouldnt have had enough juice to install windows!!?

Ok figured it out it was to do with Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H 'On Board Chip Sata Mode'!. I remember it aksed me the first time i powered on the system that my sata drive was in IDE mode and if i wanted to change it to AHCI mode, i wasnt 100% sure what AHCI mode is, but i knew that a sata drive shouldnt be in IDE mode should it, so i selected yes to change it to AHCI mode. I hav now changed it back to IDE mode via the BIOS and now windows boots up. Any idea why this happened, and should i have my sata drive in IDE mode??

When it says IDE mode, it is IDE compatibility mode.

IDE mode will be ok, but to get the full function from your hard drive (NCQ, etc) you will need AHCI mode. You could try checking which SATA drivers you installed with Windows, because there may be a different one for AHCI support. Once they are installed you can reboot in AHCI mode.

Otherwise there may be additional drivers you need to add when installing Windows (put on floppy then press F6 when boot from Windows CD) which will have AHCI mode support.
