I'm planning to buy a new computer sometime in january, and I just got a small question about memory and motherboards.

How will it work if using memory sticks with higher frequencies (lets say 2400mhz) on a motherboard that only support up to 2133 (overclocked)?

And how big difference will an average notice from example a set of 1866mhz memory sticks compared to a 2133 or 2400mhz memory? When having the same amount of GB.

Faster RAM can downclock, so if you're using a mobo that doesn't compete with the faster RAM, the RAM will just go as fast as the mobo can handle.

In terms of difference between 1866 and 2133, or whatever, it very much depends on the chipset being used. Haswell and Skylake prefer faster RAM - obviously in real world conditions you wont notice the difference but buy as fast as you can get.
