Hey all. Sister gave me a new slow cooker a few days ago as it wasnt big enough for her and her family. Its a 1.5litre i think small white round one with off/high/low and auto.

Want to do a beef stew type cassarole so when at tesco i bought some slow cooking beef a bag of veg mix i.e potatoe carrot and swede. I have a small range of herbs like paprika, garlic and ginger powers, origano, cayanne pepper and Rosemary. Got some broth mix. Some guy on youtube didnt presoak it and he seems to think it was ok at the end of it. Whats the thoughts on broth mix in here for slow cookers.

Think i have some stock cubes somewhere.

Also i have some farmhouse dumplings mix i wana do.

So whats the plan how do i make what i have nice. ;) Oh i have a few onions in the fridge too. I also dont want to use anything but the slowcooker to save on dishes cos i hate dishes lol. So if anyones got any recipies for me and tips for slow cooker and stuff let me know.

Mainly interested in the timing of cookin a stew/cassarole. As i hear 3 hours is possible on high but isnt the slow cook meats better when cooked longer? Which i could leave off doing one tonight and just stick it on in the morning rdy for my tea on the evening.

Fire stuff in, cook on low for about 6-8 hours. See how it tastes!

As above anything liquid based, red wine/cider/stock etc, brown the beef off for a couple of mins in the pan beforehand and then fire the beef/liquid/veg and some herbs/spices in and see how it goes. That's my general slow cooker advice.

I would strongly advise on charring/searing the meat before putting it in the cooker.

Having a caramelized coat around the meat makes it much nicer, though it does mean extra effort and washing up.
