Small Upgrade on my crap pc :P :HELP:

Hey guys

Soon i should have about £140 to upgrade my pc, maybe a bit more but it will take longer to have the money...

Anyway im here because im a newbie when it comes to buying bits for my pc...
My brother usualy does it for me.

Anyway here is my spec at the moment.
AMD athlon xp 3200+ overclocked, not sure what to, its my brothers old pc

512 RAM
and a radeon 9600
Not sure about the mobo, probably just a little cheap 1...

Anyway i can buy second hand... and my main issue is for playing games... i want to be able to play games on low settings with a ok framerate.. that means new games..

Anyway could someone point me in the right direction, i can go £30-£60 over budget and i can buy second hand

Well with your budget and current spec, I'd look at getting a nice shiny new AGP graphics card to boost your FPS. A swift upgrade to 1Gb of RAM wouldn't go amiss either.

Perhaps look at getting a 7600GT or a second hand x800XT/x850XT/6800GT and a 1Gb (1x512) RAM kit.

Yea i thought that i would have to get 1 gb of RAM extra... if i want it to run crysis anyway because it will be a very demanding game

But im happy to pay out because it looks brilliant

Anyway ill have a look into that GFX card, any more idea's anyone?

Bang for buck the most popular seems to be a Geforce 7600GT 256mb AGP

i have the pci-e and i can tell you for the price im far from disapointed. lovley piece of kit.

gets my vote

Yep it's a nice card altho it seems to be cheaper on PCI-e than AGP

Still worth looking out for!

Sell your current gfx card and RAM to raise a bit more cash, and get urself something like Geil Value 2x512mb kit and a 7600GT

That should boost your performance markedly until you can upgrade the whole lot when you win the lottery

I could sell my ram but wouldnt i be better off with 1.5 RAM for when crysis comes out, it will be a VERY demanding game, even on low settings

just have a look at the video's on www.gametrailers.com

Anyway, keep these idea's comin, oh and i cant find that card in many places in AGP.

Does your mobo support dual channel RAM? If so I'd just stick with a 2x512mb kit.

Try looking for the other cards I suggested as well, second hand. X800pro/XT, X850XT PE, 6800GT etc

Yes my mobo does support that but its already running with 2 x 256 dual channel ram, and so there is only one slot left...

I dont want to sell the other ram really because i was 1.5 gb

If you start running different densities and spec of RAM in dual channel I would say ** asking for instability probs, espesh if u overclock it. I still recommend going for a 2x512mb kit in DC and sell ** old.
