well the first night i installed vista(saturday past) all was well, the recycle bin was where it was supposed to be on the desktop.
the next mornign i turn on my pc and i delete something, when i do that i immediately go to the recycle bin and delete it permenantly especially if its a big file so i look for it ann i cant find it, no problem says i ill make a shortcut and place it on the desktop which i do.
then when i empty the recycle bin the pic still shows it has trash in it(i did say small problem but im picky like that)
so what im looking for is someone to tell me how to get it to work
any help would be greatly appreciated

Hey stevieg,

When you empty the Recycle bin, the rubbish still appears to be in the bin.

This is literally an optical illusion. The bin is actually empty, it's just that it's displaying the Recycle Bin (Full) icon instead of the Recycle Bin (Empty) icon.

The solution to the Vista Recycle bin will not empty:

* Right-click on the Vista Desktop, select Personalize.
* Click 'Change desktop icons' link in the tasks pane.
* Select the icon 'Recycle Bin (Full)' and click 'Restore default'.
* Also, select 'Recycle Bin (empty)' and again, click 'Restore default'.
* To exit saving changes, click the 'OK' button.

Hope that helps. :)

thanks for the help and i have the icon back but it still doesnt work,
when i bring up the icon to come back when there is trash in it,the icon stays with trash even after deletion and when i bring up the icon when there is no trash it stays that way too,i think i could live with it as i generally remember when ive deleted something.

hmmn..... strange, it shouldn't do this (obviously).

but you mention wanting to delete files permanently. simply, hold the shift key when you delete and that bypasses the recycle bin altogether. :)
