Small webserver for Windows 8?

All I need is the capability to stream media through HTTP on my local network.

Reason being is that my Chromebook only has Chrome browser on it and you can't actually mount shares so I figured the best way to achieve this was to have a small web server which just shows an index of the files and lets me play them.

Its full featured if thats what you mean. Its not a huge install as many of the components are already installed.

Was more thinking memory consumption/cpu consumption whilst idle. But if the components are already there and running it shouldn't be much of a worry.

i used to use this a few years back it used next to nothing it terms of resources. IIRC it was something ridiculous like a few MB of ram. it might well have changed since though.

As for overhead, IIS won't use any resources when its idle, and barely anything if all you're requesting are static files.

I went with IIS in the end and its worked fine for streaming to the Chromebook.
