I'm just trying to settle a disagreement between myself and a mate who works part time as a salesman at a major high street electronics retailer...he looked skeptical when I told him I was planning on getting a Samsung M87, so I said he didn't know what he was talking about because a couple of weeks earlier he told me there were (at least, he may have claimed even smaller, I was drunk) 42" plasma screens that could do native 1080p available in his store...and since, try as I might I can not find a single 42" 1080p plasma, except for a news article about how panasonic just came out with one thats only available in Japan (article was April '07)...

I'd be happy to be wrong on this since I would be interested in such a screen, but I don't think there is one available here yet.

Anyone?

As far as I know the only plasma 1080p screens available here are 60" plus (but maybe the next gen is out with 50" but I havent seen any yet)

I dont think there are any 42" lcd screens either (as they are usually either 40" or 46")

I think there are 50" 1080p plasmas available now, and I'm pretty certain there are 42" 1080p lcds.

yeah I think he was aware of that, he was just saying 40" and 46" are the more common 1080p LCD sizes (true?)

...I'm definately aware of that TV, since that's what I'm saving the pennies for...

What I want is for someone to give me the model number of a 42" or smaller plasma that can do 1920x1080, that is available in this country, or to definitively tell me there isn't such a beast.

having far too little to do at work, I have finally managed to find some Panasonic plasmas that are 42" native 1080p, but that cost about 2x the amount of the m87...

Still haven't found the (what I believe to be mythical) LG 42" 1080p plasma that my acquaintance insists exists...

Ok - I havent heard of 42" LCD's but maybe they do exist - not sure of the benefit of 2" though over any distance but if its the same price in comparison then no problem

Pretty sure the Panasonic PZ700's are the only 1080p 42inch plasmas, if not the only 1080p plasma's period.... Expensive but very nice screens.

Most other plasma's that claim 1080, are infact 1024x1080i.

There may well be some other 1080p plasma's out now, but Panasonic was there first, and was first at 42inch.

I'd take a Panny TrueHD plasma over an LCD at any price :p, but thats because I find LCD TV gives a very artificially looking picture to my eyes. I'd even take a 1024x768 9th generation Panny Plasma, over a fullHD LCD screen. :)

Either way I think we can all agree that 42" 1080p plasma's certainly arent common at the moment and the price if you do find them probably makes them uneconomical

Im still very much an LCD fan (even though if you can afford to get a giant 1080p plasma then Go For It!!)
