Can anyone help me, I am currently looking to add to the existing controller, a HP BBWC Enabler - Memory - 128 MB - DDR to it, however is this all I need, or would I need to also purchase a HP Battery Backed Write Cache Enabler Option Kit - Memory backup battery to go with it

Being as it's quite an old product, HP has very little documentation.

Current server is extremely slow for around 15 users, mixture of PCs and Macs, accessing CAD drawings, JPGs and email

Thanks

TBH i don't know so i'd buy just the 128mb first and see if that has a battery on it.

If it doesn't get the other thing as well.

Having a bit of trouble understanding what you are asking. I think you are asking if you need to order one part or if you need to order a kit (containing a number of parts)?

You need to order P/N 291969-B21 (additional 64Mb taking you to 128MB) or P/N 351580-B21 (additional 128MB taking you to 192MB).

You will get a stick of DDR RAM with a shrink wrapped battery and a bit of plastic to attach it to the SA-641.

Once installed you will have more memory and that memory will be used to cache writes as well as reads.

It's been a while since I used a SA-641 but you should be able to configure the ratio of read : write caching in 25% blocks in the ACU.

Thanks Gord, yes it was confusing as the description of the memory unit only mentions the ram and not the battery and I couldnt find a picture to confirm it.

The controller currently has three 146gb 10k SCSI drives in Raid 5, need to improve the performance as its struggling so I was going to add the 128mb unit as its quite cheap these days

Thanks
