Interviewed for a job today (i got it!). Dress code is smart casual, most people there where anywear between full suit and untucked plain shirt/polo with chino/dress trousers and some form of formal footwear.

I plan to wear mostly chinos with loafers and a untucked shirt (not a dress shirt). Wondering what colours go together. Would black shirt, black pants and brown shoes be fine together? Or is that a no go? Or even navy shirt with the same. I never where smart cloths dont even own anything apart from 1 suit. The wardrobe cant be anything extravagant, blacks, dark blues etc

Brown shoes are best not combined with black trousers, because black is the formal work colour.

If you have brown shoes, then the colours of chinos that would go ok would be beige, navy blue, dark brown, grey. If it is casual, then you need to get away from black trousers.

For smart casual shirts to combine with above chino colours, go for something with a little colour but nothing too extreme, e.g. blue and white check or striped shirt, red and white checked shirt, plain light blue, plain grey, anything with simple stripe or check pattern really. When it comes to smart casual, you will typically be wearing a "formal" shirt but just wearing it without the tie. Take a look at formal shirts from M&S for examples:

Avoid black shirt, black trouser combination as this makes you look to sinister.

I hope that helps.

I don't know about your place, but at my place of work trousers are most definitely a requisite. If I turned up in just my pants I'd be escorted from the building. Our place is smart casual, I wear combats and a polo shirt.

Chino's or similar trousers. Shirt. Brown leather or suede shoes/ankle boots. I also often wear a sports jacket (which is a slightly more casual blazer).

Obviously try the less formal colours such as cream/tan/grey chinos with a darker shirt, or blue trousers with a lighter shirt, etc

I try to dress casually but one notch dressier than others around me. Some colleagues wear tshirts and jeans which are comfy but I prefer to dress for work and be more casual outside of work.

I wear black trousers with Doc Martens, a shirt and a jumper over the top. If it's a little warmer I wear a work polo.

Dress code is meant to be smart casual.

Are you asking GD how to dress yourself?

Definitly a troll

Must be!

So you really are asking GD how to dress?

You're at work, tuck your shirt in.

I'd start with this, you bum.

Put clothes on.

Check in the mirror.

If it looks all right go to work.

For previous jobs that have specified "smart casual" I've usually worn nice shoes (not trainers), jeans, and a tucked in/untucked shirt.
