npower keep sending me texts and emails about an install that i have not asked for, anyone else getting these ?

i am currently on chat with them and this is his latest response. does this mean i could get into trouble by refusing it ?

David: Would you like me to add a smart refusal flag to the account also ?

Energy companies are under pressure from the Government to get a certain percentage of their customers on Smart meters.

thanks guys have refused, cheeky gits had made an appointment with the installers to come around and fit it.

my meters being phased out according to the letters I've been getting for the last 2 years.

wonder how long until everyone is on a smart meter with surge pricing

The energy companies are using every trick in the book to get people to agree into have one installed, just ignore any messages.

I got a letter which sounded like I had no choice in having one installed and saying that the date had been set to come out fit it and all I had to do was confirm the date, when you ring up to confirm the date you're actually just consenting to have one fitted.

My provider said my existing meters were obsolete and could be unsafe, so they would arrange for smart meter installation.
Which I thought was idiotic as they were fitted 3 years ago when the house was built.

I refused the installation.

When they standardise them so you can change providers and not change smart meter, it might be worth having.

Until then, it's pointless IMO

Was super annoyed when I realised they weren't standard

Oh, and npower I will never go with again, trying to get my overpay back took months!

Worst company I've ever had to deal with in person

Non-standard. Do not work across suppliers along with some dubious business practices in the pipe-line around surge usage costing models.

i refused mine they are fitting meters that cant be used with other suppliers so if you switch it becomes a dumb meter, it's scandal and fiasco with the customers footing the bill.

Curious, why are you refusing the install? surely it saves you having to enter meter readings every month.

I haven't submitted a meter reading for years, sometimes some bloke must have come round and read the meter from the cupboard in the communal corridor, other times they presumably just estimate the bill. It doesn't really matter, I'm still going to pay the same in the end whether I over or under pay by a few quid for a few months.

I don't see how a smart meter is going to help with anything.

Tell them the industry is a complete farce and you revoke any outdated technology they're offering you as they will probably screw up the installation anyway.

My wife has made it quite clear we will not be having a smartmeter installed. She said she would reconsider once a standardised one is installed, so that no matter who you are with it will work.
We're with Ovo and we submit monthly readings anyway. Add in that Ovo pay us something like 5% interest on anything we're in credit by, we quite like having money in our account - wonder if they would take an ISA transfer at those rates?

That's actually a good reason, if they can cause issues changing supplier then yes, probably best avoided for now.

I almost always provide monthly readings, not sure why anyone would want them coming round your home to check the readings.
