Well a company that was going bust down the road let me have a wee look at what they where throwing away the other day. My GOD there was a lot of crap being thrown out. I walked out with the following

x10 baseunits (mostly athlon 2000+)

x2 Dell Poweredge 2300 (old but still had 6 hotswappable 10K cheeta's in them)

and the most important find. the above UPS

Well it came with batteries and it works, the thing is massive, its 3U in size and its a full rack mountable thing.

I have the following powered off it - Gaming machine/Server/Switch/Wireless Point/VM STB/Amp/Cable Modem and monitor.

That has barely hit 1 bar of load, I feel this might be a bit overkill for my living room :D

I removed utility power and the thing lasted over 3 hours and STILL had half battery to spare :eek:

So really I suppose the question is


1. Would it be worth selling because to be fair its HUGE and I think its slightly overkill

2. If it would sell what would it be worth? I see a couple on ebay for £250 but meh

3. If I keep is this thing going to be munching my electric bill?
 
They shouldnt use more power that what you have plugged into them, only if the batteries are discharged...

You could sell them, but the delivery would be huge as they weigh about 60kg..

Yea, this thing with two batteries within it is HEAVY! I mean I can barely left it on my own (infact you would do damage if u did lift it all on your own)

I don't mind putting collection only, I wonder if someone would be willingto pick it up if they really wanted it.

Its just so large and I don't really have that much IT equipment in my living room to justfy using it.

I just wonder what £ its worth as well.

[EDIT] that site reakons around £50 just to send the bugger! :o
 
They are around £700 new.. the replacement batteries are about £250-£300 iirc....

Well not bad for free then :) I was wondering if I made the right choice in taking it with the weight and size of the thing, maybe it will sell then, I can only hope :) Maybe I should stick it in the For Sale forum lol!or maybe not :D
 
Personally, I'd knock it on even though it's a hassle. Even after paying p&p (which the buyer would pay anyway) or allowing collection, you'll still make a tidy profit, and then you can get a 2nd hand smaller one and still make £100-£150. As a benchmark, I run my server (C2D, 10HDs) off a APC 1000VA and it never goes above 1 bar, even under load, and it only cost me £80 2nd hand with good batteries and a management module.
