Morning all,

It has come to the point where my contract ends in May and I need a new phone. I have a SGS now and quite frankly the battery life is terrible. I can empty it in 2 hours flat just browsing the web. Admittedly it wasn't always like this but I'd like to avoid a repeat.

So what do i need? I have no preference on OS but I do demand a decent battery life (1.5+ days of reasonable usage). Now I appreciate this will degrade but if it starts high atleast by the next two years itll actually last a day.

I basically use my phone for web browsing, email, calls and texts so nothing overly demanding in fact my sgs is fine for this so i dont need a portable super computer. Now i have browsed the xperia s and lumia 800 threads and these have complaints about battery life. So basically what good smartphones are there out there that dont die quickly? I'm looking to get another contract at £35 pm so should cover most phones for free with that. So what's the OcUK preferred choice?

I would suggest drastically lowering your expectations.

Smartphones go through battery supidly quick.

Have you tried to look for battery upgrades for your SGS?

I know non stock batteries have been brought out that can outlive the normal samsung batteries. Not sure how realiable they are though. May need to check reviews.

It amazes me how people have such bad battery life on their phones. 2 hours just browsing the web? Either you've got another app installed that's draining it or your phone is faulty IMO

I can get 2days+ on my SGS and that's constant use of calls, texts, web. trying different apps (installing/uninstalling), taking photos/video etc.

Galaxy Note in my experience has always got me through every day since I had it and I browse and watch vids a lot, often leaving the browser open effectively all day.

2 hours is very poor. I'm sure you're exagerrating but you might want to look at a new battery.

Trouble is that people's definition of "heavy usage" is always a mixed bag. I rather have a more concrete data set like screen on time, video playback and we browsing in max hours before the phone dies.

However, the phone with the longest battery life is definitely the Razr Maxx without a doubt. It's coming out in the UK mkid May though.
