Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

I went with the OnePlus Watch 3 in the end, and frankly it's awesome. Battery life is incredible and I always use AOD and lift to wake, plus all the other smart shenanigans.

It looks great, already had an update, which is more than could be said for the outgoing Ticwatch pro 3.

I did look at the Samsung watches but wasn't blown away, and tbh I like Wear OS.

Let me know if you want a pic or two.

Had mine since April and like you love it. Even if you run it in power save mode and therefore get 15 odd days out of it it's still a great functioning smart watch.

Looking for a watch.

Never had a smart watch.
Here's requirements in a real world narrative.

I want it to track my lengths in the pool.
I'd like it to work with komoot app to give turn by turn directions walking, cycling etc.
I have a S24 ultra.

I expect everything else is kind of standard in terms of fitness tracking, sleep, nfc for payments etc etc

Leaning towards a garmin. But really have no idea

Here you go @Camalot.

I want it to track my lengths in the pool.
if you don't push off hard/roll-turn make sure you have one where you can press a button to register every couple of laps,
I use indoor running lap option on the suunto I have; I used their heart strap once which records info until it is in proximity to the watch
(have I polar strap I can use for running with it)
Sleep tracking - would love to know rem, but, still a gimmick across the market, until they have some kind of ecg head strap option

I do push off and sometimes roll.

So I read the garmin actually isn't great for swimming?
It also doesn't have kayaking on it? Crazy.

I'm actually looking at Huawei now. Just sucks Google apps can't work on it.

Samsung/Google etc have absolutely dire battery life so they are an instant no.

I'm actually wondering if I won't bother as nothing seems perfect. I think the Huawei would definitely win if it had Google apps/nfc.

I did a factory reset made no difference.

I did a restore from a back from February no difference.

So I've no idea what the next step is

UPDATE :

I tried setting up the watch with my Pixel 9 XL to see if I would bet notifications on the GW 6.
Yes I did all worked fine

So I went back to the S25 Ultra & it did not receive notifications.

I decided to factory reset my S25 ultra & set up the GW 6 up from the start & test.

All working fine now.

Bit drastic I agree but it fixed the issue of no notifications.

Hope this helps EH75

Thanks for that. Luckily for me a watch factory reset (and then restored to the most recent back up) sorted it out. Glad I didn't have to go quite as extreme as you did!

So this is actually the fist time wearing it with the blue strap. I like. But the keepers don't stay in place, which annoys me. Looks good though and dresses it up a bit.

Other than lap-counting (the novelty of uploading lap timing data wears off when you see the regularity and low stddev in excel)
counting strokes is the only other functionality I'd like swolf.
Have to be fairly disciplined about washing the watch after use, if you are using buttons in the water, reliability of buttons decreased whilst I wasn't doing that,
but I basically only use a watch in the pool, or running/cycling.

Have had a few watch clashes in the pool - usually swim anticlockwise with watch on left hand (right handed) and bigger watches with protruding buttons can catch on lane separators too.

Yeah I'm not really a data person. I just want to really know how many lengths (ie kms) I have done and not have to count them in my head.

Its tricky having never owned a smart watch

I'm torn between the Huawei and the garmin with neither being ideal.

Komoot is a big one I really want and I'm unclear if the app. Is better on garmin or. Huawei.
I know it's good on garmin.

Had the Garmin Epix Pro for nearly 2 weeks now, and it's brilliant, huge upgrade over my Amazfit.

Used it 24hrs a day for heart rate, steps, sleep tracking, couple of GPS walks, etc, and it's still on 40% charge.

Galaxy watch 8 classic pre ordered , traded in my Galaxy watch Watch pro . Lets see how I like squircle  .

It's almost the same size as the Ultra ? does that mean a new Ultra classic could be released next year ?
