Absolute nightmare.

The crack is the thing in the top right hob. The very top right bit is where I have pealed off a bit to look underneath the glass.

I assume you'll want to hear the story about it first.

So, I have a heavy marble chopping board. I wiped it clean but it was wet and soapy... I was being and idiot and dropped it and a corner landed directly on my SMEG hob and it shattered instantly.

Not exactly a great story I know.

I've been thinking about it all weekend now and I feel terrible. I'm in a rented flat and I cannot afford to replace it. Even though, I know I'll have to bite the bullet eventfully.

Can anybody give me any help?!! From the looks of it just the glass has smashed and the element below looks fine. Can I buy parts? Can I get a second hand one? Who should I contact?

Please help!

Please, please help. Somebody must know the best thing to do in this situation.

I have submitted some pictures for your viewing pleasure... :(

Yes the glass can be replaced, but you are looking at about 300 quid and you could prolly pick a new hob up for less than that if you hunt around.

Do you have home insurance? You could claim on that maybe.

Huh, actually called SMEG... Wonder who thought that up?

There's a broken one on the bay for £115 delivered. No idea if you could salvage the top, or if that is the fault

Also, come clean and tell the landlord. Maybe you can work something out

There's a couple of 'spares or repairs' on the usual auction site, can you not nab the glass bit from one of those?

As above, what about home insurance?

I had to replace the top to our Range 110..... just be thankful it was only a 4 hob Smeg that's all I can say!
