Got out to my car this morning to find my front passenger window smashed, and a police note on the windscreen. Turns out someone had broken into it, picked apart the glove compartment (though not stealing the oakleys or pioneer head unit (stupid place to keep it, I know)), gone through all my CDs (???) in the wallet but not done any other damage. I mean, really? Who does this for kicks? The police had been called by the neighbours but as I park around the corner from my house I hadn't heard the alarm. Yea its frustrate me, cost me a bit to get fixed but it really does seem to be an utterly pointless act of maliciousness.

Anywho, on with the day.

You're very lucky not to have anything stolen!

Maybe they were disturbed and fled before they had a chance to see what was there?

Keep nothing in your glove box and leave it open for all to see?

What if you have a light in it ( which might drain the battery if left open for a couple of days without using the car) :p ? And if you actually keep a load of rubbish in it and thieves may think there might be something valuable under it ?

******* and probably disturbed while trying to nick something.
If they just smashed it for fun then they're even bigger ****s.

This, if it happens around your area.

where i used to live as a student in middlesbrough,(really rough area) everybody did this.

No parcel shelf (so you could see in the boot) and leave the glovebox open showing that it was empty.

Stops thieves breaking into your car to check theres nothing worth stealing.

As an indication of how rough the area was ... i had my fuel lines under the car cut by somebody trying to steal my petrol. Except he cut the wrong pipe and cut the return pipe that returned un-used fuel back to the tank. Did nothing other than annoy me.

there has been a recent spate of "break ins" around my parents direction lately.

they woke up one morning to find their own car with its doors open, glove box rifled through, boot rifled but nothing stolen.

they put it down to the tiny possibility that they forgot to lock it. even if the car was NOT locked there is no visual way to tell unless you pull the door handle. the car is parked a fair distance from the road and there are hundreds of cars parked outside houses on this road

then a week later a few doors away another car is rifled, again locked, modern security etc i think someone must have a way of picking the alarm fob's signal out the air

Thieves would have a good job breaking into my father in laws car. Dosy git put it in the garage and forgot to close his boot, he then closed the garage door. open the garage door it then hits the boot and wont move Mega LOLZ from me.

Maybe just opertunists trying door handles of every car in the street, some are bound to be unlocked? I have on several occasions gone out to my cars in the morning to find that i have forgotten to lock them. Its easily done :o

the circumstances were odd though. the car had come back from the dealer that afternoon to fix an issue with the interior light and fog lights, they wouldnt do what they were supposed to no matter what you set the OBC to do. he is 99.9% sure it was locked as he watched for the courtesy lights so im stumped.. yet they pinched nothing

Yea it does seem like Im going to have to leave the glove box open from now on. Garage rang me this afternoon saying the guide rail for the window is now broken as well, so this will need fixing :( Great.

And no, no satnav sucker mark :p

Remove the bulb?

Every time? If you want to have your glovebox lighted...

You're probably right though, I'd certainly do that if there were reports of burglaries in cars in my area... Luckily, although I certainly don't live in the bets neighborhood for having a car ( while not theft, vandalism happens), theft is really low and I can't remember how often I've walked up to my car, noticing it's still open, and also notice my HU + USB stick ( mostly leave it in the car in my street) and AMP + sub are still in there.
