Right, this has been driving me up the wall for the past few weeks now.

Currently I have a windows 7 box setup as a basic file server
I have my Windows 7 box, my MBP and an Apple TV downstairs

My win7 can access the server
Server can access my Win7
Server can access MBP
MBP can access my Win7
MBP cannot access Server
AppleTV cannot access Server

now sometimes the MBP and AppleTV can access the server when they feel like it, as i run XBMC to view movies and whatnot

any ideas on whats going on, all the searches on google have told me to change the local policy on the server, which I have done, but still no luck

Can you ping the server from the MBP? And do you get any specific error messages? Does it just not see the server or do you get access denied? It could be misconfigured permissions on the server - is your user account on the Win7 box the same as on your server?

Sorry i should have put this in the first post

MBP can RDP into the server, and ping it

the MBP just comes up with the unable to connect to server window when i try to connect to it

now what ive done on the server is change the security to 128bit encryp' and it seems to allow the mac to connect to the server

will update tomorrow once i have rebooted everything
