Hi all...
...ok this has bugged me for ages now, and when I've searched I struggled to find anything.
so windows xp,7 and so on....sharing data between 2 pcs, not a problem
eg browse to \\pc1\c$ and any folders etc
I tend to keep the same admin username and password on each PC for authentication (just on a workgroup not a domain)
However, on all but one occasion, I've never really got it working between Windows 8 pcs (Win 8 to a Win 7 share is fine)
Everytime I try to attempt to connect, I get prompted for password authentication. If I try the likes of pc1\myadminaccount etc which I know are correct passwords, the same manner as I would do on a Win7 PC whether on or off a domain, it prompts over and over again.
The only thing I believe it is however, is that each of the 3 win8 pcs have had the main account linked to a microsoft account since setting them up. I did attempt to make a 2nd admin user account on each pc and use that but did not work. Including setting fell permissions for everyone etc in those folders
The only time I ever got it to work once, was I found a page, but since lost it, where you authenticate using the hotmail account parameters......but I cannot remember for the life of me what format that was.....eg for credentials it was sometime like "microsoftaccount\[email protected]" and using the password associated with that account for that PC.
I'm sure there's probably something really stupid I'm missing, but can't think what it is. I've tried on and off for months (not too much) but always given up lol
