SMB to transfer files from win to os x

got my first apple computer yersterday, a macbook, and im liking it so far. Im transfering files from my xp machine to the macbook over samba at the mo but its going very slowly.

ive turned ipv6 off on both machines but to no avail. anyone got any ideas?

wired over ethernet. its going to take "15mins" to transfer 40mbs at this rate
