Smelly PSU

When I turn on my computer, everything runs fine.

After a few minutes I can smell burning coming from my PSU which slowly gets stronger...

I assume its had it. But what exactly causes this problem? Its an Antec Truepower 380W... A friend of mine also had problems with the same model.

I bought it in November06 so I should be able to get it replaced on warranty, but should I replace it with the same model? Or go for say the 430W...

Any input would be great.

Burning smells from a PSU are never a good thing. Anything unusual from a PSU is never a good thing, usually a sign of pending death. Be safe and buy a new one.

I have some important work saved onto the computer, should I risk turning it on for 10 minutes to save the work across??

I wouldn't risk it if it's really important stuff, could go boom. If you have another pc just stick the disc in there.
