Ok - noob question of the decade ..

When on in-game chat someone just writes this after you've written something:

^^

I don't actually know what it means believe it or not. I presume they are eyes (??). Does it mean

1) I'm happy
2) I'm glancing upwards (as in, thinking you're an idiot)
3) Something else?

I've always assumed that its a derivation of the anime smiley ^_^ for happy, just that the _ has been dropped.

I always thought it meant that somebody was in agreement with what you said. Not sure though.

its a shortened verision of a japanese emoticon.

on the japanese FFXI servers the japanese players would type ^^ instead of "hehe" or "lol"
