Smoke/Fire Damage?

Hey guys, no idea if this is the right section of the forum so apologies if it isn't.

I recently had a bad kitchen fire in my flat, no idea how it started. Although the fire was contained in the kitchen my whole flat has been ruined with thick black smoke covering everything.

Now to the question - can the smoke/soot/whatever else have damaged my PC to the point where it might harm the components giving them a shorter lifespan? (is it likely to just give up on me a few months?)

Its working fine at the moment, but its full of soot and other nasty crap. Should I assume everything is okay and just give it a thorough clean and rebuild?

Cheers

Cheers for the replies, canned air was the plan.

Can you claim on the insurance for it ?

I could claim for it on my contents insurance like I am with some other stuff, which was one of the reasons for my question. I don't want to get everything sorted, move back in then my PC die in a month or two because the smoke wrecked it.

I've also never been in this situation before so I don't even know how claiming on things like a PC would work, do they take it away and check or what? - Not a clue

smoke alone won't do any harm, but and it's a big butt at that, but if something like rubber or plastic got burnt near the unit then there is a chance that not only smoke has got into the unit, so for me i'd take it to a pc shop and first let them take a look at it, as they at least will have seen that sort of damage before first, before you try and do a make over with air alone, as the inspection cost can be claimed back with the claim anyway, plus let your insurance company know anyway, then if it does die later at least they already know
