this is along the same lines as the fat persons thread.

but why do smokers think they have the right to drop fag ends wherever they are, the streets are full of them and it is an eyesore, why is it not treated as litter and the offenders fined for it? not only that but some people even leave them smouldering.

also why do smokers smoke in very public places where people arent moving, for example train stations. i hate it, i get off the train, and go up the stairs which are enclosed (there are only about 30 steps) and people already light up completely regardless for all the non-smokers' health. also in london victoria station people are always smoking.

smokers are such selfish, pathetic people. how can they not go without a cigarette for a train journey.

i think people should not be able to smoke ANYWHERE outside their home, even walking down the street, if someone in front of you is smoking you get it right in the face. it is disgusting. fortunately people are starting to give up, but "chavs" still think it is cool to smoke.

i, as a non-smoker, dont want to have to breathe in other peoples' smoke, so why should i have to? it is damaging to my health yet the government do nothing about it.

(and before anyone goes on about car fumes being just as bad, yes they are however cars are an integral part of society if people need to make long journeys or transport heavy things etc. i also believe short journeys should be made on foot or by bike and that all public transport should be run on renewable fuel (they do it in delhi, india, why cant they do it here))

*braces himself for the flames* (pun not intended)

my main reason for this thread was that i was out with about 8 people the other day when one decided to smoke, and proceeded to blow smoke over everyone, so i had to come home smelling of smoke and my girlfriend had a really bad cough. not only did the person smoke 1 it was about 10, this is unnecessary. it isnt cool and will kill you.

i understand all the smokers who say "you dont know what it is like", and yes i dont, and i never want to know. "peer pressure" is the biggest pile of poop i have ever heard, if you are "forced" into smoking by your peers, you either have no spine or are so anxious to be accepted that you'd happily kill yourself.

for the people who say "oh yes but people smoke as they are on the dole, or are having a bad time" oh yeah, and they are going to have a great time with lung cancer aren't they. also smoking is a very expensive habit and people who are on the dole would have much spare cash if they gave up smoking.

the main point really, is how unfair it is that people who are interested in their health and fitness have to breathe in carcenogenic fumes on a daily basis. i could punch some smokers some times (kudos to the guy who said he'd punch the poster who threatened to blow smoke in peoples' faces) i was standing at the station when someone came, stood beside me, and lit up.

so what if it is a drug, if it is a drug make it illegal. it isn't like alcohol whereby you dont harm others (obviously unless you get violent), smoking harms everyone who breathes it in, so should clearly be banned. hopefully if the government ever pulls its finger out this will happen. i know smoking is on the way out due to the health matters etc, but why do people start in the first place? you know it is bad, you know it will kill you, you know you will get addicted, so why even start?

alcohol and tabacco are bigger killers than A class drugs (from new scientist) but unlike alcohol tabacco kills non-users too.

As a smoker, but non-drinker, I find the smell of stale alcohol disgusting. I demand that drinking alcohol be banned, especially in enclosed spaces, such as pubs.

a pub is a place to sit and drink, i am a non-drinker too however that is what a pub was built for.

I don't like seeing people eating in public places, especially fat people eating chocolate bars, or tourists munching pasties, dropping crumbs which encourage the seagulls.

fat people shouldn't eat chocolate either but it doesn't harm others around them

Mobile phone usage should be banned in public places. All that radiation must be bad for passers-by, as well as the noise pollution caused by people shouting.

mobile phones actually emit very little radiation and not enough to harm even the user let alone people around them

Large pushchairs should be banned, as they force other pedestrians to walk in the road to avoid them, risking getting hit by buses. Maybe babies should be banned, then there would be no need for pushchairs.

other pedestrians can look into the road, assess the risk level and walk behind the pushchair if it is dangerous, you can't not breathe in someones smoke if they are around you for more than 20 seconds. also in this case it wouldn't be the buggy killing someone it would be the persons stupidity to walk infront of a bus.

Buses should be banned, because they belch diesel smoke straight at car users who are trying to overtake them.

buses shouldn't be banned but i agree they need to be run on clean fuel like they do in delhi, india. but banning them would just mean more cars and therefore more pollution.

There are loads of things that annoy other people.

yes things like people not thinking before they post.

Every non-smoker has the right to stand/sit/walk somewhere else.

every smoker should have the decency not to smoke in public places

I used to get wound up by the insults hurled at smokers in these threads; pathetic, oxygen stealer (what?), chavs etc etc. As a smoker I enjoy the fact that whiney wee pussies can't handle a bit of passive smoke. I couldn't care less if you think it's killing you, I'm enjoying it. If smokers affect you so badly, stay at home.

it is not "pussy" to not want lung cancer etc. well i hope you are still enjoying it when you are on oxygen, struggling to get your breath, unable to walk, and slowly painfully dying. you need to grow up, smokers affect many people and they should stay at home. btw oxygen stealer works in 2 ways, 1 you are not worth the oxygen in the air you use, and 2 your cigarette burning uses oxygen.

WTF??? Who told you that????? When I was in Delhi, the fumes are 10 times worst than in London. You literally can't breath.

no one told me it thank you, i went to delhi in april and have been there many times before. the pollution used to be very bad but then they converted all buses to natural gas (or something) and are in the process of doing the same to rikshaws (sp?) and the air is much cleaner, possibly more so than london.

well the fact that a gym suggests an interest in ones health and a cigarette suggests a complete disregard for ones health, it is a bit contradictory.

good for your mate, but it will affect his performance as his lung capacity will drop. it affects people in different ways, some will have severe symptoms while others will appear healthy.
