Smoking CPU :( ?

Fired up a PC I was given, heard intermittent crackling and smoke come out from under my H60i. Turned off my PC at the wall. I took it apart and it all looked fine, so put it back together again but unsurprisingly it won't fire up.

The green light on my motherboard works, so I assume my motherboard might have got away with it. When I press the power button, the fans will start spinning (and I hear the H60 pump do something).

Is my CPU dead? Motherboard dead? Powersupply CPU cable dead?

it's an ASUS P5KPL with a E6600 C2D.

My 7970 has survived which is a bonus!

Smoke seemed to puff out from under the left side of the h60 pump but the pump itself seems fine. The pump is quite big so I guess the smoke could have been coming from the motherboard but there aren't any components that close to the socket.

Well I got a cpu from DK4J (or something like that) and it still doesn't work so sadly I think you're all right and it's the motherboard. Maybe the original CPU survived?

There isn't any visible damage on anything.

Oh yeah and I tried another PSU, same result.
