smoking indoors license

I'm pleased I reported said pub and I'm even more pleased the landlord was fined for breaking the law - what gives him the right?

I'm also very happy to be tied into the "anti smoking" brigade that some people like to call us.
I'm an ex-smoker, haven't smoked for 4 years now.
So why do I complain?
Why do I not just "live and let live"?
Because the law states that if I walk into a pub I walk into a smoke free ewnvironment.
Why the hell should I have to pick and choose which pub I go into so that I don't get second hand smoke down my throat and come out smelling of ****?

"Oh but what about my rights" the "smoking brigade" and general "Oh yes, let people do what the like brigade" say.
Rubbish - as a smoker you have the right to kill yourself and make yourself smell like ****, you do not have the right to do that to others.
So feel free to smoke in your home and feel free to smoke in the street (for now), you wanted your rights well these are them.

you sound a bit agressive, i like

words escape me

I did miss the "in such an environment" after the word "happy". I do hope this is not going to descend in

what about other dangerous jobs?

Which are all carefully legislated through COSHH, for example, to ensure that workers come to no harm. I would suggest that you do such a COSHH assessment on cigarette smoke and see what precautions should be taken!

backkkkkkk to the topic...

so far as i understand, it could possibly be allowed if there are no employees right? so lets say its a family run business?

Now I know people will go on about "let people just do as they please" - but no.
My local is just that, my local.
I expect to be able to go in there and basically not killed.
Anyway, people were blatently breaking the rules so I made the local authorities (council) aware in a "non emergency" way.

Who will you blame when your local shuts down?

I blame you and people like you who got this law passed in the first place, we didn't need it, a bit of smoke was tolerable - losing the traditional british pub forever is not.

Right.

There already were non-smoking pubs, or pubs with a smoking area which was slightly raised and highly ventilated.

If there really was a demand for a smoke free atmosphere in pubs then there would have been much more of them.

Instead we get the "I know what's good for you, more than you do" brigade killing off the British pub.

Possibly there would have been more pubs which were non-smoking if there was a greater demand for it but I suspect the inertia against changing from a proven formula would mean that most pubs would simply take the easy option and remain smoking. Introducing a blanket ban means that no one business is disadvantaged more than any other in the market.

As much as smokers say otherwise it isn't the smoking ban that is killing off the british pub... it's more commonly £, more people are drinking at home because it's cheaper, and it's definitely not just the smokers.
