Now to start the thread I don't subscribe to the whole "smoothie for a healthy diet" idea, I drink smoothies because they taste so good!

Anyway...

So it's almost summer and the best thing to have on a summer morning (infact any morning) is a lovely sweet, tasty smoothie. What are peoples favourite recipies (celery/cucumber/weird ones may be allowed in this thread if they actually taste nice:p!)?

I recently found Tescos are selling some nice frozen fruit at the moment, nice and cheap and saves time cutting an freezing yourself (3 boxes for £5) so they definately make a nice bulk to the smoothie.

At the moment I'm normally having a mango and summer fruit smoothie, i'll give you a quick recipie below:

1 ripe banana
Slosh of Apple juice
Small handful of frozen Mango (home cut and frozen or from tesco)
Small handful of mixed berries (variety is the spice of life, mixed berry, rasberry, strawberry, whatever you have in the house at the time, or frozen fron tesco with the former 2)

Stick the fruit in a blender with a slosh or so of Apple juice and blend for a little bit, add apple juice depending on viscosity of smoothie, then pour into a pint glass. Lovely start to the morning (especially if you're not a breakfast person).

One of my other favourites (although a bit more logistically challenging, you have to eat the yoghurt before it goes off!;)) is Mango Lassi

Apple Juice
Greek yoghurt (or normal natural yoghurt if you like that more)
Small handful of Mango
1 Ripe Banana

Blend as before and check for viscosity/consistence and consume!

So what are peoples favourite smoothie?

I do like a smoothie at least once a week, but recently I've started enjoying eating the ingredients whole instead. The one I normally make is:

1 ripe banana
Large mango
Orange
Slack handful of wild blueberries (get them frozen from Costco)
2x passion fruit

Also another one I experimented with the other day and was really nice:

1 ripe banana
1 small carton Greek Yogurt
Milk
1 tbsp honey
Vanilla essence
Ice cubes

Blend all together and sit back and enjoy

I usually have one for breakfast. Banana is good for the base as it sweetens and thickens it, but any of the following:
  • Banana, peanut butter and whole milk
  • Banana, peanut butter, Nutella and whole milk
  • Banana, strawberry and soya milk
  • Banana, blueberry and soya milk
  • Banana, kiwi, fresh spinach leaves, soya milk
  • Strawberry, blueberry, yoghurt, whole milk
  • Chocolate Nesquik, powdered milk, raw egg, whole milk
Often chuck a handful of oats in as well, if I want to bulk it up a bit :)

Thought I'd bump this thread along, made my first smoothie today.

I used:

Strawberries
One Banana
Yoghurt
Whole Milk

The one problem I found was that was just way too frothy. Does anyone know how to reduce the froth?

Cheers.

Blueberry Breakfast Shake (4 servings or 2 large)
2 1/2 cups frozen blueberries
1 1/4 cups apple juice
1 cup frozen yogurt -- vanilla or natural
1/4 cup milk (skimmed or semi-skimmed a bit healthier!)
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Aye we are smoothie fans in this house and had a hand blender and cup, now we have a blender with a jug attachment from ALDI, does the job spiffingly.

Although I get lazy and buy the pound smoothies from ASDA. Apart from innocent best tasting mass produced ones about.

I have been putting carrots in my smoothies .. you cant taste them but they are good for you.

Kiwis, mangos, carrot, orange.
Cherries, blackberries, blueberries, orange

Frozen yoghurt goes really well too!

If its to thick pop some juice in

:D

Just a blender. You can get them for about £15-20.

bit of help on this point, i recently got a blender to make smoothies/soup, but i found that the blades are a good 10-20mm off the base of the plastic jug so there are lumps of whatever i'm blending left in the bottom.

how the hell do i get rid of the lumps ?

cheers......
