SMP errors

Since last week I have been getting a lot of "MSI (?) send/rec error text messages not available" with 2604/5 WU in VMware Linux Drake with some crashing 4 or 5 times a unit. I used to get 1 or 2 crashes or none:)

Has anyone else noticed this increase? Would I be better switching to Win SMP? I've lost 5 1/2 hrs cruching on my current WU:(

Thanks.

Better sticking with the Linux client mate, I find it more stable and more developed... I have had no problem with the Linux SMP client as I leave my borg running 24/7 with no crashing at all *touches wood* :)

You're catching me up quickly, Stelly.

Thanks for the feedback. How much RAM do you have? I've been considering upgrading to 2 GB DDR 4000 from 1GB 3200.

Can't comment on the Linux bit, but you'd have to be overclocking to make use of the DDR 4000 properly. If you aren't, just get another stick the same.

I intend to overclock more. I can only get 218 MHz mostly stable with my current Corsair 3200LL @ 2-3-3-6 2.8v. BOINC will run OK at 222MHz but SMP falls over like crazy at this. My current RAM isn't made any more. The chip has more in it as it is only 44C with AC 64 Pro when room is 22C @ stock volts.

I'm using 1Gb DDR2 mate E4300 which is running good with no problems I dont see the point of upgrading to 2Gb is your only using the box for crunching... I'm trying my bestest to catch you up mate... will parp you in 1.6 months ;)

I fear my reaguard will spot yr vanguard before too long:(

My PC is general use with too little gaming of late as I haven't got round to MTW3, NWN 2 or Oblivion [still on the wish list]. I suppose you could call it SMP-itis. I either need to hack the bios on my X800 GTO2 or maybe upgrade to a 8800GTS 320. Decisions, decisions.
Thanks for the info.

No problems... 8800GTS is a good card but dont forget that its really a Dx9 card...

I'd wait for the R600 ;) ;) :D

Me too! Going off what Gibbo has been saying it looks like the "XT" version is as good if not better than a GTX. If true, wonder how good the XTX will be

I presume this is the delayed new ATi card? Not that I know much about it.
yep indeed - in terms of folding there's some talk about it here though there's not a lot of facts so far from what I've seen :p
There are some good links to other news/hardware sites though :)

Gibbo's got one. Perhaps we could persuade him to try running the GPU client on it for a few frames to see if it'd work. :D
There's no reason why it shouldn't work as long as the drivers are compatible - the client is coded for DX9 rather than being optimised for the R5xx cards

You think he'd be allowed to say anything if he could try it?

The current GPU client wouldn't run on it anyway, and I doubt you'd want to (or even could) force the X1900 drivers onto an R600.

Plus mhouston made this cryptic comment on the FCF:

1 of the R600 shaders may not be the same as 1 of the R580 shaders...

They're definitely not the same. The DX10 cards starting with the 8800-series have 'unified' shaders which are less specific in function than those on previous cards. Not sure how that would affect performance, though...
