Hi guys

I bought a SN21G5 yonks and yonks ago and i keep looking at it sat on one of my units completely redundant and not being used at all,

I once tried to fit my 939 newcastle in, it booted up and everything seemed normal other than no output on my monitor and no bios beep

at the time someone told me that the BIOS needed flashing to accept the newer S939 chips... just thought i'd come and ask what exactly needs doing, but also, how much is the system worth in its current state (which i assume is the origional bios)

Not sure how much it would be worth but if the BIOS pdes need flashing, you'd need to get hold of a CPU that works with that model in order to perform the actual flash.

Have you tried the price check forum on the members market section? I think you could get a decent price for one of those, I get the feeling that I'm not the only one thinking about moving my old 939 system to something small as I upgrade to something new.

Better than it being a very expensive paperweight anyway!

PK!

The SN21G5 shouldn't need a BIOS update as it was released around the Venice/San Diego era.

Not getting past POST is probably due to a memory incompatability, as Shuttle's are known to be picky about memory. Also BIOS beep error codes don't exist in Shuttle's.

I can't advise if your memory is the problem. But the symptom can be related to memory. You could always borrow a single stick of memory from somewhere else, e.g. an old machine at work, etc. And hope if that allows the system to boot so you know it's working.

Don't go out and buy a module based on what I've put here though. Maybe someone else has further advice.
