Ok, first the spec:

SN45v1 w fn45v1 motherboard
Barton 2400+ XP-M @ 2200mhz @ 1.6v
2 x 512mb RAM (BH-5) @ 200mhz 11-2-2-2
x800xtpe GFX
250gb HD
m-audio delta 44 soundcard
silenX 250w PSU

Now, everything was working wonderfully yesterday, but today, I turned it on, and after a minute or so, it turns itself off, and a RED led on the motherboard comes on, and stays on!

I'm guessing red means bad, but I think it may be something over heating... as I turned it on again, and it shut down not long after POST. What is the problem here?

I have a spare CPU, spare RAM, and a spare 9800xt, but I don't really want to swap anything out if I don't have to. Anyone else had this, and how did you fix it?

Nice! Now I know what it is. The paste has been there for well over a year now, so I may have to "see how it's getting on". :)

Also, I'm running a 120mm panaflo fan, thru a 120mm to 80mm adaptor. It has been getting a bit toasty recently, but I thought it was because the weather is getting warmer. :/

I'll go check it out...

Just whipped the cooler off... It was only making contact with half the core. :(

I put some new goo on there, and bent the cooler a bit so it should have more even pressure on the whole core now. :)

About to fire it up, with fingers and toes crossed...

Ok, it's all back together now, and I turned it on. It just sits there, with all the fans at full speed, and nothing shows up on te screen.

Is the BIOS buggered? I've got another nforce2 mobo so I can hotflash the BIOS... but it's a PITA tbh, so I'd rather it was a last resort.

I've gotta go out now... But I've changed the jumper and whipped the battery out...

Hopefully that with clear the BIOS, and with any luck I should be able to get the ******* to boot.

Thanks for the help cokecan, hopefully I'll have a little more luck tomorrow. :)
