SN68PTG6 PSU driving me crazy

Evening,

People here have always been able to help me with my troubles, now I come to this place in an attempt to cure my only dislike about the SN68PTG6, the PSU fans make a horrid highfrequent noise, all the time. I’ve lifted the case up from the floor with a rubber mat, took of the lid and replaced the ICE fan. All that is left making noise is HDD seeking and the PSU.

I’ve been pondering about how easy it would be to exchange the fans in the PSU? Will it make any difference? Advice on new fans?

I also saw a few of the older Shuttle’s with an external fanless PSU, now this really would make my day. I found these so far:

Particularly the EF16 or maybe the EF28, I don’t mind the small brick outside the case what I mind is the noise form the Shuttle PSU. Reckon these are up for the job? Or know of any other external psu solutions?

Really hoping for some wisdom here,

Thanks in advance.

PS. Reason for the extreme silence requirement is that it is my HTPC (livingroom) and the noise from the PSU kills the joy of watching movies.

you can replace the fans in shuttle PSUs quite a few people have done it on the sud forums. you could also double check that it is the fans by stopping them and making sure its not the actuall PSU internals hissing. you could also complain to shuttle about the noise they may send you a new one... we all know what shuttle are like though..
