Snake slithers out of supermarket shelf

My brother was bitten on the ear by a spider over there when he was sunbathing on decking. He was told not to sunbath on the wooden slats. Complete idiot.

Used to have quite a few somewhat scary stowaways appearing out of shopping containers and the like when I worked for Tesco Distribution, a lot more frequent than you’d think…

any particularly interesting stories?

as for the op, it's kind of nice seeing an uneventful news post- snake appears, has the good fortune to be spotted by a snake handler, gets taken away and released.

not gonna lie i'd probably freak out, but only because i wouldn't be sure if it was a bitey or strangley model, i'm mostly cool with snakes as long as i know which bit of them i need to be worrying about.

As long as you keep away from them you don't have to worry about them.

They're defensive, not aggressive

(I am not a snake handler, ymmv)

even if the snake handed you the beans?

But thats in OZ, all kinds of critters out there. I have a friend there and she checks around the floor before spending a penny and empties shoes before putting them on. Big fast moving spiders hide in cars also, freaking out the driver causing them to have fatal crashes.

Can you imagine being interviewed for a job as a shelf stacker there?
Q) What steps would you take if you saw a snake on a shelf?
A) ******* long ones guv’nor, ******* long ones!

Yeah I believe that's the Huntsman spider. Not particularly venomous but they're quite big for 'true spiders'. Lots of stories about them getting into cars and hiding in the sun visor, they pop the visor down and have a big **** off spider land on their lap.

I'd say a fatal crash is probably the least of your worries at that point.

is this world news? it's like a house spider coming from a tesco shelf and the daily mail making a huge deal out of it.

do they think it's the first time a snake came out of a supermarket shelf?

my dad used to work on the markets in the 70s or 80s and tarantulas in the bananas wasn't that uncommon according to him

Not really, I recall opening a container one night to find a couple of rather huge spiders (I’m talking tarantula on steroids) staring back at me, we had a guy hospitalised when some snake bit him,it had arrived with some fruit. These things was far from a rare occurrence.
