Snapdragon X Elite Reviews

Been looking at a new laptop and was really intrigued by these. Around 1k can get a Apple M1 Pro (refurb) which seems to lag a little behind the Elite on benchmarks but Apple Silicon has had a few years head start to get apps up to date etc.

Basically comes down to checking what apps you use and how many of them are native. You should expect any generally relevant and modern software to get a native build at some point.

The main thing I like about Snapdragon laptops is the extra RAM. I couldn’t stomach an 8GB machine.

Yeah that's very true. I think pretty much everything I need is available. All of my dev work id try to do on cloud machine anyway.

For the price of a Snapdragon Plus machine you can get an M1 pro with 16gb albeit refurb machine.

I probably don't need as much power as either of them for local work but it's nice to have I guess!

That's worse than the YouTube reviews! Running geekbench and then basing performance on that (or that's the impression the review gives) :D
THG is nowadays a total joke of website but seems to have great SEO and keeps getting hits :-(

Anyway, Qualcomm took so long with this that recent(ish) reports suggest that ARM's reference designs will catch up to Oryon and get close to Apple Silicon too.

Once every ARM licencee has access to those designs, then the competition should heat up a fair bit.

Well, if you are ok using translation from Polish, there are 2 very detailed tests of Snapdragon based laptops, on a very liked Polish website:

Generally speaking, good battery life, but everything else is quite meh outside native applications - emulation is rather slow, a bunch of software won't even start, etc. Linked tests are done also after big update that improved performance considerably, as before the update it was much worse. As reviewer wrote, it feels like with AAA games - very buggy and working badly on release but maybe after few months they will iron out the worst bits. Maybe.

I wish Qualcomm pushed the Audio side of snapdragon more, there really sounding like they could take on the chaotic BT codec market with their wi-fi based wireless audio technology with snapdragon wireless Audio.

Its long overdue wireless headphones and buds got lossless audio quality and better latency and Qualcomm have the hardware already so imo should have pushed the audio side of things here.

half the software in their list is pointless for a slim laptop like this. No-one is buying one of these to run blender or cinebench or other "benchmark" software

Windows Bluetooth is utterly retarded. I can't use Bluetooth headphones in a game without it changing to telephony mode and sounding utter crap.

I can't understand how this isn't fixed.

Yes its a nightmare and ridiculous its not been fixed, I tried my best to get along with Bluetooth technology but found its almost better suited for personal audio listening like mobile phones, music and wireless buds, gaming/movies its proper pants at times.

The Snapdragon Sound has a bunch of technologies, but am hoping their wifi wireless tech fix the latency and bandwidth issues so we finally get the highest quality sound with lowest latency
but its probably a long way off.
