Recently Windows went **** up on me and I had to reinstall. Now I have a working system that has been updated is there a way to snapshot it somehow so i can simply write the snapshot to my boot drive rather than reinstalling and updating all over again?

Windows backup will create an image of your installation for you but it will want to put in on a different disk drive, presumably in case of HD failure. It works well though, I've restored a complete image back in the past.

I prefer Win 8's System Image Backup as its free and creates standard VHDX files. I like this because you can just mount them as drives in cae you just want to get a file back and you can add files to them after you have created the backup.

but most of all its restorable with just the Win8 DVD
