snes on hdtv

Plug it into the aerial port on the TV

But it will look awful, better off with RGB Scart if you can get it.

It'll work if the tv has an RF input. My LG has one and I tuned the snes in on channel 36 like they used to recommend in the olden days. Plug it in and scan on the tv with the console on - you'll find it just use old skool RF scan mode until you get a picture. A wordo fwarning is that it doesn't look quite the same without all the lines :P

Ive tried using RGB Scart with my snes and an HDTV and it fads outs after a few seconds, haven't tried the rf cable.

If you don't want to mod your own RGB Scart Cable there quite a few places online that sell them. The picture quality with the RGB Scart cable is very good. It's a shame they did offer scart output from the N64.

Connect the console through the RF socket and tune, really should be that simple. I'm guessing that more recent TVs may only have options for tuning digital channels in which case RF won't work. If this is the case you'd be better off getting hold of a composite cable which won't require any tuning and will look better than RF. I'm not sure if RGB SCART is an option - I have a US SNES which works great with a GC RGB cable but I don't know if that's possible on a UK SNES without modification.

If you intend to use the SNES (or any other old console) regularly I'd recommend that you get a CRT, you should be able to pick one up for under a fiver. It'll look much better and you won't have the input lag of an LCD, which can be extremely noticeable when playing older games. Ever tried wall-jumping in Super Metroid on an LCD? It was difficult enough on a CRT but is virtually impossible on an LCD!

Sorry I'm confused lol. Why would I need to mod my rgb cable?

For some reason the SNES produce a low powered RGB output signal you need the cable modded to produce the correct signal strength. If you don't want to mod the cable yourself then just buy one from an auction site for around ~£6. The picture quality from a properly modded cable is very good in my opinion on an LCD tv.

I use my Gamecube's SCART cable with both my SNES and N64 without issue. MIght be worth tracking one down?

/edit - Just read the link above... do that! ;)
