Hi all, as a huge fan of the Sniper Elite franchise I'm really looking forward to this latest version, but less looking forward to the fascination that so many modern games have on "weapons mods/customisation" based around the desires of Multiplayer needs.

Its currently downloading so, post lunch today I'll be starting my first run through!

I started it yesterday, its okay, but same problem as previous ones have had, i hate being restricted by hedges and things like that when i want to go a certain direction.

Sniping is as fun as always and it runs absolutely beautifully.

3.5hrs on the first mission, Stealth all the way.

The voice acting from the 2 female leads is very ropey, I'm fairly sure neither is either Scottish or French and their "fake" accents are very obvious, although the male lead (same one since SE2) is very good as always. Gameplay wise it's more of the same and, as suspected, I really don't like the customisation aspect like adding stocks and scopes to a 1911 pistol etc but I suppose that what we have to deal with nowadays.

Just finished Mission 3 and the map size is insane!!!

I spend 4 hours last night just on that one map and I still only covered maybe 2/3's of it at best! It was also the first "long distance" map, where missions 1+2 had most (but not all) of the combat taking place <100m and mission 3 immediately starts with dozens of 450m shots if you want to play that way. The map is so big that it becomes a bit of a problem for the stability of the game as I had my first bunch of game-ending glitches occur - Binos stopped working (no zoom), unable to fire weapons whilst "aimed" but fire from 3rd person was OK - all of which still occurred immediately after a reboot. The binos one never fixed itself but the "unable to shoot when aimed" was semi-fixable by taking an shot in 3rd person first, then aimed fire would work for 3-10 shots before the glitch came back.

I don't how much of this is down to map "size" or how well it's been filled with enemies, as I think I easily killed 150-200 in that one mission alone and, for a sniper game, it just became a meat-grinder slug-fest really quickly once you got to within 100m of the objective (a massive cathedral) and my stats at the end which had been 100% Lethal, 50% stealth in mission 1+2 dropped into 100% Lethal, 75% Assault as Stealth stopped becoming a realistic option due to the huge number of enemies closely stuffed together.

I think it was a bad idea to start the game in a night mission. They are trying to introduce you to the game and it's difficult to see anything! Definitely has not grabbed me immediately like SE4 did but I'll keep at it.

Well I've only gone and shot Hitler in the Testicle

The DLC is quite fun but very long if you're waiting for Hitler to move from location to location, most of which I'd already trapped with explosives, poison, environment etc, which made it feel like a discount Hitman game. It was only after a Steam forum post that I realised why they give you so many options for "Non-Lethal" takedowns, the game is trying to make you a Pacifist by giving you extra XP for every enemy you leave "unconscious" rather than killed, which is an odd choice, but I suppose lobbing a bottle into an enemies head 50 times a mission sounded like a good idea to someone.

I haven't played any of the previous games, but this is free of Gamepass and Eurogamer gave it a good review, so I've been playing it a bit.

Really enjoying it so far. It's basically Hitman in World War 2 but the gunplay is better...I don't kill anyone other than the main targets in hitman, but whilst playing this, sniping nazis from 300 metres away (on mission 3), as a plane goes over and obscures your gunshot was too fun to ignore.

I absolutely love the Sniper Elite series, but sadly (for me) this is by far the worst one and by some margin.
I managed 4 hours before deleting it.
I'm not sure what Rebellion have been doing for 5 years, but it wasn't making a polished game.
Shame :(

Sorry to hear that. What's wrong with it for you? I'm starting to get into it but I'm not sure the visuals have improved enough from SE4.

Been watching a few streams of this. Not sure I'd want to spend £30 for the single player bit, but I do like the idea of invasion mode. Some of the levels look good although not being able to climb low walls and fences looks really annoying....

Just bought this for £27 rather than the £45 and wondered how is that the likes of CDKeys can sell games so much cheaper than Steam and Rebellion's own online store?

The map design is just horrible.
What you think is an open map has invisible barriers everywhere, and that fence or wall you want to jump over, nah, can't do that.
And when you can jump a tiny wall, you hang off the other side about 2 inches from the ground.
Why?
My other gripe other the awful AI, gun customisation and the pitiful invasion mode (they nerf the XP if you don't use it) is why when you pick up an enemies gun, you can only use what ammo is in it, then you disgard it?
That coupled with horrid movement, sub par graphics (over sharpened?) and bugs/crashes make it for me a huge disappointment.
Rebellion must have got all the SE4 staff into a room, congratulated them on the wonderful job they did, then fired them all, and replaced them with staff who have little to no comprehension of gaming.

The issue with the maps and invisible barriers is a bullseye below the water shot. I've never understood this in the SE games. They make the maps bigger and bigger but really are just funnelling the player in a particular route.

I've not had any crashes but have gotten annoyed with the game giving me a dead soldier's weapon when I only wanted to search his body for ammo etc. I might be pressing the wrong button but it's annoying to suddenly find the silenced pistol I had at the beginning of the level has been replaced with a German non-silenced weapon.

Any picked up weapon does not replace any of your weapons in your load out. Just drop the picked up weapon by selecting your silenced pistol again.
