Snitched copy right - what to do ?

Any one had a picture published in the press and not received an accreditation?
Or worse had the picture published with another party claiming copyright?
I have
So what do you do?
I feel miffed to say the least but feel if I kick up a stink the paper wont do anything and the guilty party will think up an excuse.
Here is that story.
A Civic do, with the local Mayor in finery and a number of other dignitories and the public being guided around a new Country Park.
I went along as Joe Public and was snapping away - as we do.
The Ranger asked would I care to let her have some images - So I agreed and uploaded some to her address, at the local council.
I said she could make 'free use' with suitable accreditation.
Local paper comes on and said their photographer did not get there - would I care to upload some pix - due accreditation of course.
The story does appear but not from the newspapers own sources or the Ranger's parks department- but from the Councils own PR dept with one of my images claiming their copyright..
So I mailed the Ranger- she replied immediately apologising but claiming the PR dept hijacked the activity and my pictures, and was this and not the Rangers or the newspapers own reporters story that got used.
 
Not sure what to do in these circumstances, how ever it does strengthen my view the PR people are the scum of the universe. :p
 
Talk to the paper, I had someone send some of my pictures to the BBC once, a quick email explaining the situation and proving the photos were mine sorted it out in a matter of hours.


Although obviously not as easy in a Newspaper as print is print, it can't be edited :/
 
Well its your pic and if you can prove it, bill them at whatever may be a realistic rate.

Its actually the PR departments fault for passing shots off as their own, but also the papers fault for not doing the necessary checks, admittedly this may not get you anywhere but as I see it they used your work without your permission, and therefore they breached your copyright, so long as you didnt give the PR department full rights which you say you didnt, and nothings in wirting anyhow, giving someone your pics does not mean you are giving them the rights to it.
 
Well I mailed my contact the ranger on the walk involved and she immediately
apologises and reconed the PR folk acted indpentantly of her, and said she give 'em hell
Next day a very humble PR person mailed me and the paper's editior, and the reporteter because the story got in and the reporters got spiked.
So I said I'd forgive her this once

Meanwhile 'Rosemary the Ranger' the lady in the picture has mailed me an invite on her next voyage on June 10.
I shall be prepared this time..

As the papers in this series[Kent Messenger] are 90% adverts- they must be pretty damn close to a profit -but perhaps that is what you meant.

That's interesting - Thought I give it a try in PSP9 - the facility is there but each attempt so far has brought up 'Unknown Error' 3 times in the same window each attempt.
This has recently had the 30Mb upgrade put up by Coral. :confused:
