Hi Guys,

not sure if this is the right place for this query

basically just after a bit of software that will allow me monitor a computers temperature via SNMP or a syslog dump. found a few for linux but these boxes are all xp

ill set the scene, we have a disaster recovery suite with 80 desktops in it and the punter has a habit of switching the aircon off, as a result it just peaked 39c in there! we had a simple speedfan alert setup but the punter turned the box off so im looking for a resiliant setup where i can query a number of machines and create a mean temp result.

any ideas?

not done this before, however looks like it might be possible in vbscript from looking here

http://forums.techarena.in/server-scripting/618997.htm

I've just setup a similar thing to query a bunch of computers drive sizes, free disk space etc and email it to me in a nice html table so as long as the machines respond to the temperature query it should be easy.

I would test it and send you the answer but just on the way to a friends stag do! if there's no rush i'll take a look on monday and reply here.

what brand are the pc's, should be a mib for them for snmp if its ibm / hp etc

mixture of HP xw6400 and xw6600's

im being lazy really i could go mib hunting but just wondered if there was a tsr of something like speedfan

if you are bored and manage to have a look that would be awesome, thanks

nice one... glad i could be a help!

re: price, no idea of the top of my head, i can find out monday from our purchasing team though... sorry, it slipped my mind to check today, been one of those days!

i dont recall them being expensive, may have even been under a hundred quid per unit, but don't hold me to that as we bought about twenty of them.

i'll have a dig around in the stores too, if we have any lying around i'm sure it would be ok to chuck you one over to have a play with.
price is cool and your offer is very kind too
