Snorkel piece

It still goes in to your mouth, it just means that when you come up you dont have to blow all the water out the top, either that or your mean a suba diving air tank :)

Are you talking about a ping pong ball that seals the open end on the more expensive ones? If so probably a valve.

I think he could be talking about one that has a hole/valve on the bottem of it

The bit that goes in your mouth is the 'mouthpiece' the bits you bite are the 'lugs'.

When I used to dive those valves to stop water ingress were only on cheap items and were rubbish, if you don't have enough breath to clear your snorkel when you surface then your probably dead.

What does this bit in red do?

Drain valve I do believe

edit: Lets the water drain out the bottom when you surface so you dont have to blow to clear the tube....

It lets the water out of the bottom which saves you puffing it all the way out of the end of the tube... snorkels are pretty boring but it beats nitrogen narcosis

nothing sucks like being bent ;)

the red circle is over a valve that helps you clear water from the tube, after going under water, breath in very slowly to get the 1st breath then blow fast to clear the water and then breath like normal
