We all know it will be $29, will the upgrade be a full install disk for Snow Leopard or will we have install leopard then use a upgrade disk? it maybe obvious but wanted to find out for sure. :)

It will be a full install disc, but it will check that you have Leopard installed before proceeding.

If you have Snow Leopard installed (e.g. you're re-installing) then there's no issue.

this is where MS screw up big time

Windows Home basic should be £25, Home Premium £35-40

Disagree. They screw up because they offer all the different versions.

One version. One Price. It would be so much simpler to market, and they would only have to change the installer i.e. when you install you select "Business" and it only install the business stuff, "Gamer" and it would install everything etc etc.

Actually that's how Vista works. All the install DVDs are the same, when you install it it detects which version you have from the registration key.

(at least, that's the case with the OEM install DVDs)

I know, but there's still that multiple option scenario for the user buying at a brick and mortar.

@wush.. they make so much money from bundled corporate deals, something Apple sucks at. I know this, but still.. winner by default.

No, they charge more because they don't have the luxury of asking £1K-odd for a laptop that's not worth anywhere near that. :)

I expect Apple will cite this as a reason it's "better" than Vista/7, when in practice they're saving you £50 so they can ask £500 more on the hardware side.

Not worth it? Have you not seen the build quality :p

Same can be said for BMWs and Aston Martins. You get what you pay for IMO. Except in this analogy, BMW and Aston wouldn't charge you less than Ford for a service. I see where you're coming from but saying not worth anywhere near that is pretty specialist in the Mac forums.

I'm with EVH here, i'm no apple fanboy but the build quality on my unibody macbook (CE) is amazing and i have had a few windows laptops.

If you wanted a windows laptop with the same style and build quality then i'm sure you would be looking at something like a voodoo envy and guess what the price of them is........

My trackpad alone is now something i can't do without, it would be like losing a hand :D

Don't get me wrong, I love my MacBook, it's wonderful and I doubt i'll ever use a Windows based laptop ever again.

But it's never worth quite as much as Apple charge. The build quality is top notch but there are some good alternatives out there.

That's not really the point anyway. Apple do recoup the costs and more through hardware sales, which Microsoft don't have the luxury of. So I would expect the OS to be cheaper! :p

I think that something that is lightyears ahead of other laptops (in its construction/features) it's def worth it. I was absolutely amazed the 1st time I saw/used one, never seen anything like it. Damn I bought it for its build quality not the OS! :p

Thing I love most about my MacBook is without a doubt the battery life. It's just amazing compared to anything else.

Whether that's down to the OS, the hardware, or both, i'm not sure. But the top build quality is certainly a bonus to me. :)

yeah, I'm loving this aspect to my macbook too... knowing that I am able to take it somewhere for a day at meetings etc, and not have to worry about looking for power points every hour is a huge bonus.

I'll certainly be upgrading to snow leopard when it arrives, not sure I'll get everything out of it from all the benefits... but when it's only $29 (assuming £20), it's a no brainer :)
