So we've just had a warning that we're gonna get up to a foot of snow down here tonight. I'm trying to think ahead and protect the car from the total raping it got from having 4 inches of snow of it last time. Has anyone got one of those car covers and how do they fare in snow? I'm a bit hesitant to dish out £40 for what is essentially a sheet, has anyone tried any cheaper alterntives? Might pop into Wilkos or a camping shop and see if they do any large waterproof sheets.

May I ask why you want to cover it up? If you've got a foot of snow, the fact that it's landed *on* the car will be the least of your problems :p

If it leaks then fair enough, but why not cover it all year round / during winter / rainy seasons

Well it can't be good for it surely? Then after the snow has stopped you whip off the cover along with all the snow and voila - you have a massive snow pile for playing in.

what damage do you expect it to do? it's feather light snow, not golf-ball hail. What raping did it give your car the last time?

Well, no, but why would it be bad for it
A heavy rain shower probably does more damage.

I'd be more worried about all the filth on the roads that will get on your bodywork and under your arches if you drive it.

I'd rather just have to clear snow off my car than clear snow off of ALL the car to remove the cover, and pray to hell the cover isn't iced on to the car. Waste of time/money/effort.

Hope your car is dust/dirt free, as all that snow sitting on top + wind will turn the cover into a nice bit of sand paper!
