so I’ve changed out and upgraded my hard drive on my laptop and now if I close the lid and open it I get like a white snow screen and I can’t do anything except turn it off and back on again. Would the HDD change be the problem or maybe a loose screen ribbon or something? I have no access to a screwdriver to get opened up for a look! Offshore for another week.

Like put my laptop into the tv through hdmi cable? I can go try that see what happens. What would I be looking for?

Ok plugged it in via hdmi In my room and it seems to be working ok I tried it 3 times just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke and my laptop screen returned every time

Yeah returned working it seems to only happen when I close the lid and open it again

ok So I need to go on the hunt for a screwdriver, try get it opened up for a look.
I will report back once I find something. It’s quiet annoying as I’ll close it to do something and re open it then aaaaaaaah! Restart!

just a quick update so i opened my laptop and it all looked fine, so put it back together again. after checking all the settings in windows i noticed that the "what to do when the lid shuts" settings had been set back to default as sleep. so i put it back to "do nothing" and my problem has went away. now i have 2 questions still.

1, why would putting my screen to sleep and when wakened come back with that screen?
2, does changing out my 2nd HDD make windows go back to default settings, even though it is on the SSD drive?

I initially thought it was something to do with the graphics card so I rolled back to the previous driver but still had the issue then a new update came out so tried that as well. must have just been a coincidence that I had my laptop open to install a new HDD when the issue started. Just glad it’s resolved.
Do you think I should swap it back to “sleep” when lid closes to see if it happens again? Or just be happy its sorted. Maybe a bug but can’t see it being so or would happen to everyon else.

It was more to see if the issue came back more than anything, I like it being set to do nothing as I’m often closing up and moving somewhere else then setting up again! Would this be the intel graphics drivers you are speaking about? Makes more sense as I was speaking about the gpu drivers, the desktop is set to be used by the intregrated graphics.
