A friend of mine has been doing this for a while, thought I would share the link with you :) being a manufacturing engineer its pretty cool.....but Im sure some of you won't agree on what level of coolness its on :p

http://www.grafsnowboards.com/

They designed a pretty useful tool called SnoCAD on there to help you custom build your board.

I'm amazed that someone has done that with such excellent results.

He must have spent a lot of money on the machinery and materials. Not exactly something every snowboard enthusiast can try!

While the boards are interesting, I would check with a Don that this thread doesn't breach the "promoting a business" rules laid down in the FAQ. ;)

Thanks for the heads up, but I think it should be ok because its not a business as they dont make them for money or sell them....infact to my knowledge they have only made 3 or 4 boards and they are for their personal use....the first one he made managed to last him 2 seasons, before he retired it.

That guy is producing some very professional looking boards  I wonder how well they ride.

It's actually fairly easy to build a a decent fiberglass / carbon kevlar board. I've build loads of surf boards and it's basically the same process, mave a form of the right shape, lay up layers of your fibreglass or whatever with epoxy resin and apply lots of pressure to squeeze out the excess resin. let it set and then add another layer untill the required stiffness is reached.

vaccuum bagging is fairly easy as well and can be ndone with a VERY cheep air pump, you don't need to achieve anything like a complete vaccuum.

Lot's of land boarders are building there own boards as well, I may well have a go at it later this year I think
