Am going boarding around the end of march (still not booked it yet :p), and it will be my 2nd time, not counting a few hours at MK Xscape.

I'm toying with the idea of getting my own gear, as I plan to start going at least once a year if not more (if i can fit it in).

I'll be boarding mainly on piste, with maybe a little off piste. I like to think i'm of an ok standard, able to link turns etc. I'm 6'0", and weigh about 70kg.

Anyways i was looking about on ebay, as at the moment i'm looking for a good starter board, nothing to expensive if possible (yet anyways).
I found a few possibilities, but i really dont know the first thing about if it would be suitable or not. But what are thought of these?

Matrix (same with bindings, but they r prob lame, ne ideas?)

I'd say go for buying the gear dude - like you say if your gonna be going once a year etc -
However I think all those boards will be too short for somone of you height - at a guess I think you'll need one around 162-64cm in length (just what i've been told in my findings)
Also why not get one thats a little bit more advance - you'll soon grow into it and pick it all up otherwise you'll just have to buy a new board in a season or two?

found one of a better length, but would the actual board type be ok? it says all moutain board

also it seems incredibly cheap! as only £80 + £25 postage
boards on all the main boarding online stores seem to go for so much more

would this be a good starter board or would it pay to get something a bit better?
altho i really am on a budget, so as cheap but good as possible would b good ;)

Heli-drops and all-day hikes?

Or just off the sides of the piste onto the choppy crap.

To be honest, unless you are going to be going a few times each year, buying your own kit may not be that good an idea.

As you seem to be looking at fairly cheap boards, I would say go for it - You can always flog them after if you don't like the ride.

More important, perhaps, is buying decent clothing - versatile and warm being the best combination.

And if you are going to be doing rail slides, buy a £10 board that you can mangle, and not my 163 mountain board, which now has edges like a cheese grater.

well no heli drops, lol. but maybe some hikes + back country. the mates i'm going with have spent a season in Tignes so they'll probably know some good spots

think my top end of budget for a board would be £130 (the cheapest salomon board on the nevisport site). So under £300 for board, boots and bindings would be ace
 
There's not a lot of "back country" in Tigne. Or the Alps for that matter. Most has been turned into resorts.

Les Arc / La Plagne have better non-pisted skiing, if you car for my opinion.

Were your mates guides / instructors, or just reps and chalet-slaves?
 
If you're 6'0" and 70kgs try and go for something smaller than 160cms. I'm the same weight and height as you and ride a 157 - i used to have a 163 and find the shorter length much more preferrable in all conditions

May not be a lot but pretty sure he said they found a cpl of good spots, especially for building kickers etc.

I think they were just boarding bums for the season, ie getting wasted + boarding the whole time, sounds perfect 2 me lol
