So...3GB isn't enough for the future?

Am i glad i bought a 4GB card :D

With the new consoles having a massive 8GB available to them there was talk that games are going to start using more vRam.

I was saying this before the consoles launched. It was obvious it was going to happen really. Its hard to believe that you need 4gb though for 14400P in watchdogs.

Bet you're glad you didn't accept the community driven 780 now hey bumhug lol. :p

I really do wish people would stop putting this nonsense out..

There is roughly 5GB available to games and I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of the games being developed will have a maximum of 2GB reserved for textures and such like.

8GB will become the norm very soon I believe.

Indeed. I suspect the next flagships will come with at least 6GB. 3 or even 4gb is not going to be enough for 4K gaming and if graphics vendors are really going to be pushing that for pc gaming over the coming years, cards will be coming with 6gb minimum.

To be honest, that is why i have always thought the whole 2gb or 3gb argument with Nvidia and AMD on here is stupid. 3gb was always likely to become obsolete nearly as quickly or soon after 2gb anyway.

Was reading an article the other night that stated that windows 8 consumes something like 300mb or so of vram in the background and its still retained when gaming.

AMD need to update it now to say 3gb is not enough for enthusiast gamers lol. :p

If 3gb hasn't got much more of a shelf life, which I don't believe, then I wouldn't think 4gb has either. :p :)

I can't see the consoles using more than 4gb, so actually we might be safe for a while lol.

Always surprised me that the gtx690 launched with an effective 2 gig frame buffer, seemed like a wasted opportunity considering the obvious ton of work that went into making it a "halo" product.

Of course, Games get bigger, more complex, more textures....

5 Years ago 4GB of System RAM was plenty, now you can't run any AAA title with anything less than 8GB.

2GB vRam has had its day, i'm surprised its taken this long, 3GB is the new 2GB, 4GB gives you some future proofing.

The 780 is a nice card in many respects, but its no nicer than the 290 and like the 770 for the power it has its not enough GPU, on top of that you pay more for that.

IMO, just No... :)

think people are worring too much about there ram I mean has any one actually not been able to play a game because they don't have enough video memory?

It is always worrying to think you might not have enough of something, I have the same problem with Viagra.

With the 8GB consoles comments are you not going to include the 8GB of system ram the modern PC has as well then, so that make 11/12GB vrs the 8GB consoles.

Anyway is the twit......er in the opening post talking about one particular game or just in general?

Just this game. I just wanted to know everyone's opinion on it as to whether it will be a trend this gen or Ubi programming.

From what I've seen there's no real reason for usage to be that high but as pgi says it just uses 3GB from the off and then doesn't move from that suggesting a different way of doing things.

The problem is not the cards it's the crappy ported cheaply made junk game engines.

Pc gamers are forced too upgrade to compensate for the Dev's lack of interest in optimizing for the Pc.
