Certainly nothing I've tested runs better because of this magical technology. In fact vista64 typically scores a couple of percent LESS than 32.

This. I check start64 quite often to see what new 64bit software is about but to be honest there's little point in just looking for 64bit s/w to install just for the fact that it's 64bit. You should come at it the other way and think is there something I need to do, is there s/w to do it and do they do a 64bit version.

Though saying that checking start64 did get me using 7Zip over Winrar as it mentioned 7Zip having a 64bit version. InfraRecorder may have been another.
