Intel CPU or AMD?

Happy to buy one of Overclockers bundles again ,,, its an itch I need to scratch. Have a decent system already ... but

Basically, love Flight Simulation more than any other genre and like most folk here, just love buying new PC parts.

Intel or AMD CPU for my ideals then?, been on AMD 5950X 16 core CPU for a while now, since day it was released and also got myself an RTX 3090 soon after, no brainer to buy an RTX 4090, totally get that, but for build up package i can afford just now, Intel or AMD bundle from Overclockers?

Whats best CPU for Flights sim FS2020/24 and DCS?

Casual gamers and budget folk, please dont reply because high end Flight Simulation really needs the extra power I demand and I'm prepared to pay for that as an enthusiast.

Thanks

As you are on a 5950X, the only AMD upgrade would be a 7950X or 7950X 3D. Intel is dropping new chips soon, don’t think it a big deal as it’s just a refresh. I would wait for Zen 5 as AM5 is still a bit hit and miss and I don’t think you would get a big increase from an Intel or AMD CPU upgrade. If you cannot stop the itching, get a 7950X3D. I don’t know which motherboard to go for. I got an ASUS B650E-E which was OK, but the Intel NIC has now dropped out which is a common problem for ASUS boards with Intel NIC’s.

Isn't the game more CPU limited? Surely a Ryzen 7 5800X3D or Ryzen 7 7800X3D are worth looking at?

The problem with the Ryzen 7 7950X3D is only one chiplet has the 3D V-Cache so it can have Scheduling problems.

Good advice Cat, have no idea what scheduling means for DCS, can you elaborate please? A few DCS enthusiats think the AMD 7950X3D is the best CPU ever

Only one chiplet has the extra Cache, and Windows can have problems deciding which chiplet is more appropriate to use out of the box. It might take better now than at launch but reviewers were not so pleased at launch.

I suppose it has to be the 7950 X3D as that is the fastest chip on the planet for gaming.

7950X3D
ASRock X670E Taichi
GSkill F5 6000 Cas28

Actually the 7800X3D beats it for gaming.
This is simply not true, the 7950X3D is faster than the 7800X3D.

And anyone who says it has scheduling problems didn’t set it up properly either in BIOS or software.

I see posts on Reddit telling people to use Process Lasso, which is completely unnecessary and lowers performance in my testing.

I commented on someone’s video on YouTube who was recommending people use Process Lasso to get best performance from the 7950X3D. I mentioned that Process Lasso actually lowers the performance and is a substitute for not doing the basic and incredibly simple setup for the 7950X3D. He doubted my claims. We compared performance figures, he no longer doubted my claims and stopped using it.

Interesting, you're right. My apologies, the benchmarks I saw had it a smidge ahead, but I've just checked a few more and the 7950 is actually a smidge ahead. About 3 FPS.

Higher boost clock, more cache, better silicon. :)
