Wikipedia says its a method of printing with stone. I must admit I've heard the term before but never been that curious to find out exactly what it is or involves

In terms of manufacturing a processor, it's basically high-tech etching, but instead of scratching off a layer with a knife you use chemicals and light to burn off patterns that make up the circuits on a processor.

Very basic analogy but gets you the idea.

They start with a silicon wafer, coat it with a resist, project a circuit diagram onto the wafer, the bits which are exposed harden, the rest is washed off, the now unprotected bits are dissolved to make trenches and filled with copper. Bang, circuit. Some doping happens at some point too.
