Because if it does...I honestly don't know what to do.
In terms of power it's better than a 470, and I'd rather not have to overclock it. Plus I can always crossfire down the line.
Plus the energy consumption is better :( And it's for the same damn price...

I am so tempted, but if I buy there's no going back (I'm not in the best buying position right now)

Well, because the other 5870 that IS on offer is pretty much the same price... and 5870's always go for much more than this.
So it's not on offer? Why is it so cheap?

hmmm, it's quite possibly cheaper because the new 68** cards are out, so the 58** series cards are no longer worth the same money lol :p

Its about to be replaced - so I imagine they got a nice deal from their supplier who was trying to clear stock.

Great price for a great card - I wouldn't imagine there will be many in stock at this price for too long.

IT's EOL and unless you are buying 2 now you will find it harder and harder to get another to crossfire later.. since most people just throw old grahpics cards in their cupboards /waves at two 8800GTX 768megs :D

Argh. That's madenning. I am insanely tempted to purchase one now.
But I'm building a PC with my uncle who's an expert and I really want his input (but I can't get ahold of the sod)... but it does look better than the GTX 470. Which is about the same money.

Is there any reason for me not to by this? :(

I second that. I have one of these and paid nigh on double only six months ago. Cracking card.

If your budget for graphics is £190, then I say go for it.

With the price of the 6870 at ~£200, I don't see the 6950 costing much less than £250 at launch and most likely they will be tough to get hold of initially. Hence a 5870 for less than £190 will still be the best card you can get for your money after the 6900s arrive.

I don't think we can know - as technically the card will be end of life. However, there will almost certainly still be remaining stock in the channel and demand for it at the right price. So there will almost certainly be 5870 cards available after the 6900 launch - it just depends on how many.

For example when the 5000 series cards arrived, there were plenty of 4890 cards still for sale at decent prices for at least a month or two after they were technically end of life, since they were faster than a 5770 and were priced around the same level (but didn't have the 5770s extra features).

I've also found some reports that the XFX 5870 had defects, I can't help but wonder if that's affected the price at all. Comparing this to all other brands of 5870 it's at least £80 cheaper than other makes from all retailers...
